Pikmin sprouting up around Union Square as part of partnership between Nintendo and the Union Square Alliance

Starting on May 23, intrepid explorers may encounter mysterious, brightly colored creatures around Union Square in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Pikmin are small plantlike creatures featured in the Pikmin game series from Nintendo and the mobile app* published by Niantic, Pikmin Bloom. These plucky creatures have distinct abilities that help them explore, battle enemies, and carry out (sometimes dangerous) missions. No matter what, Pikmin are always up for adventure!

This summer, explorers of all ages can participate in different Pikmin events happening right here in Union Square:

Pikmin Bloom MINI WALK:

  • Date: May 23 through July 23

  • Location: Union Square, 333 Post Street

  • The adventure begins when visitors use their mobile devices to download Pikmin Bloom. Pikmin Bloom is a mobile app that brings fun discoveries to your everyday outings – on your own or with others! Explorers can visit seven Special Spots in-app within the Union Square area to collect in-app Gold Seedlings. For example, if you walk by a certain sweets shop, you may come across a Gold Seedling that grows into a Macaron Decor Pikmin.

  • Union Square is the second location to feature Pikmin Bloom MINI WALK event in the U.S. since the launch of the Pikmin Bloom app for smartphones.

Pikmin Pop-Up Tent Event

  • Dates: May 23-May 26 and July 4-July 6

  • Time: 11 am – 6 pm

  • Location: Union Square, 333 Post Street

  • Visitors can stop by the Pikmin pop-up tent located in Union Square to pick up a physical version of the MINI WALK map, have their picture taken with the Pikmin Bloom AR cam and check in at the My Nintendo kiosk to receive 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points**. Stay alert during your visit – you might just spot some Pikmin beyond your smartphone screen!

“We are incredibly excited for Nintendo to join the Union Square community, and we couldn’t imagine a better way to welcome them to San Francisco than through this family-friendly, interactive activation,” said Marisa Rodriguez, CEO of the Union Square Alliance. “As visitors search for Pikmin throughout the district, they’ll be discovering the charm of Union Square’s local businesses and iconic attractions along the way.

Nintendo joins Union Square in Bloom as a Lead Sponsor of the Union Square Alliance’s popular annual initiative, in which businesses celebrate the arrival of Spring and Summer with floral displays, food, events, and more to celebrate Union Square’s rich floral tradition.

Now in its fourth year, the Bloom program features stunning floral displays and activations designed to draw visitors into the heart of downtown and support the small businesses that define Union Square. As the city continues its revitalization, Union Square in Bloom serves as both a visual reminder and economic driver, inviting the community to rediscover the beauty, creativity, and resilience that make Union Square a world-class destination.
